Meet the Owners of Skyline Comfort
Serving Raleigh & the Triangle: Wake Forest, Cary, Apex, Garner, Clayton & nearbyJon Varela and Henry Amaya left the big shops to run honest HVAC the right way. We'll tell you, not sell you.
Our Story
Two technicians who decided to do it differently
We met on the job at a large, established HVAC company, the kind of place that measures a good day by how many calls you can run, not how many people you actually helped. We were good at it. We didn’t believe in it.
So we left and started Skyline from scratch on one simple idea: treat your home the way we’d want our own family treated. No sales quotas, no pressure to replace a system that still has years left in it, just a clear diagnosis and every option explained the way you’d explain buying a car. You decide what’s right.
On word-of-mouth alone, neighbor telling neighbor, we stayed busy enough to put two trucks on the road across the Triangle, while still capping each of us at four calls a day when most shops push six or seven. If you’d rather see the work than read about it, browse photos of our recent installs.
Why We Do It This Way
They ask how many calls they can run today. We ask how many people we can help today.

Jon & Henry, Co-OwnersThe difference between Skyline and the shop we left, in one line.
Owner-Led, Every Job
The names on the company stand behind the work
When you book Skyline, you don't get a dispatched stranger. Jon runs installation and service operations; Henry leads diagnostics and customer relationships. The standard they set is on every job the company runs, and it shows in the work.
- Skyline's own techs run your call, never a dispatched sub or a rotating crew.
- We cap our daily schedule, so your job is never rushed.
- You see photos of what we find and every option, before any work starts.
Jon Varela
Co-Owner · Install & Service OperationsThe technical backbone. Jon came up through a two-year HVAC program and worked his way from installations to senior technician, training newer techs along the way. Hands-on, precise, and the reason a Skyline install is done right the first time.
Henry Amaya
Co-Owner · Diagnostics & Customer CareThe one who explains it so it finally makes sense. Henry went from installation apprentice to a top-performing service technician, and he's the face you'll meet on most diagnostic calls. He'll show you photos, walk you through every option, and never push, so there are no questions left by the time he leaves.
What's Different About Us
The way we work, in six promises
Each point is a concrete promise you can hold us to, not a slogan.
No quotas, no upsell
We’re not private-equity owned, so nobody here works against a sales target. If your system can be repaired, we repair it. We won’t sell you a new one to hit a number.
Every option, explained
We walk you through every path open to you, whether that’s a repair, a replacement, or financing, and we put the pricing next to each one so you can decide with everything in front of you.
The job, done right
We show up on time, put on shoe covers, and photograph what we find so you can see it for yourself. Then we explain the whole call from start to finish.
Transparent pricing
Our diagnostic is $89, our maintenance plan is $189 per year, and financing is available for larger jobs. You see the number before we start, so there are no surprise fees.
Family & minority-owned
We built Skyline from scratch, and we’re rooted right here in the Triangle. When you call, you reach your neighbors, not a call center two states away.
Duke Energy rebate partner
We file the Duke Energy rebate paperwork for you, so the money comes back to your pocket without you having to chase it.
Licensed, Certified, Accountable
What our certifications actually mean for your home
Anyone can say “licensed and insured.” Here’s what each credential is, and the specific way it protects you, your wallet, and your house.
State-licensed & insured
Before anyone can legally install a system in North Carolina, the state requires a license that proves their skill, their hours, and their insurance. We hold ours.
If an unlicensed handyman is hurt on your property or damages your home, you can be on the hook. With us, that liability is ours, and the work meets code, so it won't void your warranty or fail an inspection at resale.
Legal to handle refrigerant
Federal law (Clean Air Act 608) makes it illegal to handle refrigerant without this certification, because mishandled refrigerant is an environmental hazard.
Your AC and heat pump are charged and serviced legally and correctly, with no leaks left unaddressed and no shortcuts that damage the system. A unit charged by the book runs more efficiently and lasts longer.
This Is Who We Are
Real work, with real names on it
He drove back out at 9 p.m.
During a routine visit, Henry spotted a charred electrical disconnect and showed the homeowner the photos. Days later, mid-summer, she called in a panic at 9 p.m. He had the part on the truck and drove out that night.
“You saved my house from burning down.”Verbatim Google review
He carried his tools up by hand
An icy morning, an elderly customer with no heat, a driveway too slick for the truck. Jon parked across the street and carried his tools up by hand to make the repair, when other companies would have rescheduled.
“Jon knew what the problem was quickly and fixed it… I will recommend Skyline to anyone who needs help.”Verbatim Google review
“Tuned up one system, fixed another, and explained every option without selling me a thing I didn’t need.”
A perfect score across every Raleigh and Durham homeowner who’s rated us.

About Skyline FAQs
A few questions about who we are
Want to ask us directly? You'll reach the Skyline team, not a call center.
Call (919) 295-2207Who actually shows up to my home?
Skyline's own technicians, never a dispatched stranger. Owners Jon and Henry stay hands-on: Jon runs installation and service operations, and Henry leads diagnostics and customer care.
Why did you start Skyline?
We met at a large, established HVAC company, the kind of place that measures a good day by how many calls you run, not how many people you help. We left to do it differently: no sales quotas, no pressure, just an honest diagnosis and every option explained.
Are you licensed and certified?
Yes. We hold NC HVAC License L.37225, and both owners are EPA 608 certified. Licensed and insured means the liability sits with us, never on you or your home.
How many jobs do you take in a day?
We deliberately cap our daily schedule where most shops push six or seven calls per tech. Fewer jobs means we're never rushing yours, so every home gets a full diagnosis and a clear explanation before we leave.
Are you really family- and minority-owned?
Yes. We built Skyline from scratch, we're family- and minority-owned, and we're rooted right here in the Triangle. When you call, you reach your neighbors, not a corporate office two states away.
Want the Owners on Your Next Job?
Talk to Skyline, not a call center.
